For those of you who don’t know me personally I wanted to give a little background of myself and this blog.

My interest in development work started while I was studying Environmental Engineering at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.  I was very involved with our chapter of Engineers Without Borders.  We did work with water purification and distribution systems in Central America, specifically Honduras and Nicaragua.

During this time I decided Peace Corps would be the next step for me.   In June of 2015 I left to be a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Volunteer in Mali.  Unfortunately, due to a worsening security situation we were evacuated in early December of 2015.

Peace Corps did a wonderful job of offering us transition options and I have now been in Guinea since January 2016.  Here, my position is a little different.  Technically I am a Public Health Volunteer.  In Mali, despite my job title, I was mostly going to be focusing on malnutrition as well as hygiene.  Here, my big objectives are malaria, malnutrition and maternal child health.  It hasn’t really changed all that much.

I am by no means a writer, but I had many questions as to how people could keep up with what I am doing during my service.  I decided a blog was the best way to do that.  Unfortunately, I can’t post as often as I’d like, or with as many pictures as I’d like, due to internet quality and availability, but I do what I can.
